Get The Wax Ready…

july282007.jpg

In reponse to the backlash I’ve been recieving via the occasional e-mail and the frequent message board discussions of not keeping the spots section up-to-date, there is finally a decent sized update for it. Being that it is the largest section of the site, and that I only personally skate maybe five of the spots it lists on a consistent basis, keeping it on track is not easy. But it is the most visited part of the site, and pretty much the reason why 75% of people go on here in the first place, so this seems appropriate.

A lot of the new listings are for b-list spots — in other words — places that only the most selective people will skate. There are not any giveaways of locations that all of you rush to message boards to post “Where is so and so in the new quarter snacks or stick up kids clip?!?!” so don’t get too excited. Either way, this is in fact and event, so without further ado..

New Listings: Reggaeton Ledges, Pearl Paint, Water Street Benches, Pyramid Ledges (real-late with this one), Tribeca Park, “The Fake Barcelona Spot,” Chinatown Double-Set, Duane Reade Ledges, Heaven, Family Court, Hooters Rail, Chelsea Piers, (Midtown) Ferry Terminal, Park Avenue Banks, Ferry Banks, 95th Street Rail, and Columbus Avenue Banks

Updates: Desbrosses Street Ledge [New Pictures], Brooklyn Banks [Status Update], Chinatown Banks [Long Overdue Status Update], Fuji Building [Status Update / New Pictures], Rail To Drop [Status Update / New Pictures], Journal Square [Status Update], Beljuhly Banks [Status Update], Lenox Ledges [Status Update], Museum of Natural History [Status Update], and Mental Hospital / 145th Street Banks [New Pictures].

Speaking of spots…

What’s Happenin’

july232007.jpg

Slow update week, I know. But something is brewing in the kettle right now, don’t worry. Here’s some junk that’s going on in the next few weeks.

The éS Game of Skate is on this Wednesday, July 25 at Tompkins Square. It would probably be in your best interests to show up before 1 if you’re trying to enter. Click here for the schedule for everywhere else in the world.

If you want to try to skate the banks with a million other people, the Back to the Banks event is happening on Saturday, August 11th at 1PM. Click here for the flyer. Sponsored by Volcom, 5Boro, Spitfire, Skateboarder Magazine, Red Bull and Emerica. It’s a best trick contest and a “skate jam” of sorts.

You didn’t hear this from me, but the mysterious Chapman video and Static III are being double-premiered this September at the Houston Street theatre. Miles Marquez does a pop shove it over a gap in the Chapman video, but don’t tell anybody…

Friday (the 13th) Afternoon Special

Although we’re trying to hold all of the recent footage for a certain something that shall be disclosed later this summer, here’s some throwaways from a late-night mission at World Trade Center that was unfortunatley detered by a lack of a light and some wonderfully “clean” tricks. All of you white balance nerds should beware of the brightness/contrast boosting. View the clip here.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the 1977 blackout.

Now, since I posted something skateboarding related, I have an excuse to carry on about rap, and rap’s more well-paid cousin, basketball (even though the post-Allen Iverson NBA is a rap video in and of itself)…

Stephon Marbury (high on something) on “Mike’d Up:” We may no longer have wonderful players like Chris Childs who punch people like Kobe during games, but this interview shows that New York still has its fair share of characters. (If you have a short attention span, watch the last third of the interview.)

Master P Theatre: Volume 1 He’s easily made some bad career moves (i.e. going from owning the best-selling label in rap music to filing for bankrupcy a few years later), it’s good to see Percy Miller re-interested in providing his fans with priceless entertainment. There will without-a-doubt be a review for Black Supa Man on QS when it drops.

Although my mentor Jeezy the Snowflake may have rightly accused him of being “a Louis Vuitton fag,” out of all the dumb jewelry rappers blow money on, Gucci Mane has the best chain by a long shot.

When No Homo Goes Wrong - Part 1: Far and away the best thing to happen to American culture in the past fifty or sixty years. P.S. It’s not about being gay, it’s about saying something gay.

More Than Ever, Hour After Hour, Work is Never Over

The following presentation features, but is not limited to: TF Footage, Janitor cameos, Irish Potato sightings, drunk lesbians, drunk girls in cabs, hidden camera footage of the assholes who come here from Howell, New Jersey in order to prove to their friends that a giant cube spins, black girls in tight gold pants, asians wearing more colors than you knew existed, colorful asians walking with black girls in tight gold pants, footage in front of max fish, totally poached pyramid ledge footage, an explanation of what punative damages are, Bakered-out drunk people footage, California footage, Brengar sightings, lime green tiger-striped socks, insight into daily crimes, etc. etc. (You’ve been warned, there’s a comment box below to spew your hatred.)

While perusing your favorite New York websites, it may seem like we actually skate out here, it’s merely an illusion, and probably the reason why no website can post more than one clip that’s over two minutes long more than once every three months. The following is a more honest look into what we do, how we work, and how thang thangs get done around here.

Dis No Limit boy tryna do dat ‘dere. Rock da boat! Don’t let it sank! It’s time to go to war, I got the tannnnkkkkkkk

Chokin’ Off a Whole Pound of Purple, Famous Like the Ninja Turtles

Here’s a bunch of junk that went on the internet recently. Shoulders, chest, pants, shoes..

Big Apple Rape recently put up a new throwaway clip. I can’t really co-sign anything using the musings of the corniest dude in music right now (also known as “the [self-proclaimed] best rapper alive”), but the skating more than makes up for including the music of a dude who has said “I’ve done kissed Juvenile and B.G…no homo.” (That’s word for word.)

The real Static III trailer is out. When is this dude going to realize that there’s other rap music out there besides Jeru? Regardless, Static II was the last certified classic video in my book, I can’t really see this one falling short of that title by the looks of the trailer.

Cuts Out of Florida is the first regional video to keep my attention for it’s entire duration in a long time. Pretty soon all of you need to realize that all the inside jokes you include in your two-minute long intros only matter to the people involved in the video, everyone else watching it just gets annoyed. COOF spares the nonsense and gets right into the skating, which is something rare these days, although certainly appreciated.

Matt Mooney was kicked off of Starks Laces and replaced with everyone’s favorite former #91 on the Bulls.

Go Skateboarding Day 2007 photos.

The Es Game of Skate is on July 24th this year at Tompkins. I got my $$$ on Bradley.

Quote of the Year:
White Man #1: “Wasn’t there a guy named Jim Morrisey?
White Man #2: “No, that was Jim Morrison.
Mooney: “Yeah, that’s the guy that invented The Muppets.

Shoulders, chest, pants, shoes..
