I don’t really have anything important to post up here, but I was tired of looking at the image below so here are a few time-killers.. Short teaser for the Zoo York State of Mind video. Somebody buy this for me, because the quality on this one sucks. Definitely #1 on the personal list of videos needing a DVD treatment. Watermelon 2 DVDs coming soon. |

| Videos Better than the New Transworld Video |

A Comprehensive List of Videos I Saw Last Week That Were Significantly More Entertaining Than the New Transworld Video: 1 - Justin White’s magnum-opus, New Thirsty. I have a pretty heavy bias, granted that New Jersey is vastly superior to all of Southern California, but anybody who subscribes to the “short-and-sweet” preference of modern day skate videos should enjoy it. I have a very strong suspicion that Justin White was in fact the first person to introduce a generation of early-puberty VX1000ers that spent the majority of their adolescence on the Skate Perception message board to various intricate concepts like foliage, “art” angles, and insertions of Super8, 16mm, and any other fancy camera they assign to you for your final project during your first semester in film school. Justin White was definitley the first person to bridge the gap between your Photosynthesis VHS tape and your first poorly-compressed .mov of all your friends skating a random bench behind some school in Bergen County, New Jersey. Beyond the inherent artistry presented by the video (which is actually kept to a comfortable minimum), it features some outstanding skating. It has sixth best skateboarder of all time, Taji Ameen in it , Bubba Heckman and Adrian Vega share a very good first part, and Andy Bautista shares the final part with German Nieves , which was a pleasant surprise, seeing as how their shared-part in Logic #6, back in 2000 or 2001 (a video actually better known as an introduction to Paul Rodriguez, Mike Taylor, and Justin Case, a year or so before the City Stars video came out and ruined any aspiring fourteen-year-old’s chances of going pro forever), has always been a personal favorite. 2 - The new City Skateboards video. Honestly, I only watched Russ Milligan’s minute and thirty second part. He’s my favorite skater from Canada who wasn’t in Baby Steps, and he manages to do retarded flip-to-grinds that somehow maintain aesthetic appeal. Plus, he does not skate handrails. 3 - Moving in Traffic. Although the cellar-door school of skateboarding has been overflown with a bunch of assholes in slim corduroy pants and half cabs who watched Static II way too many times, I feel like the majority of the people in the new Traffic video get a pass since they largely pioneered skating on obstacles meant to prevent people from falling into basements. Seeing as how most cellar-door skating is usually limited to no complys, wallrides, 5050s, ollies, and backside 5-0s, it is interesting to wonder how many more videos of spots-that-aren’t-really-spots we can handle, but for now, it still holds my attention. Hey, Mr. Carter! (The Better Version). New Teaser For the Green Diamond Video John Roman updated his website with new photos of nice pretty girls. I’m sure everyone saw this coming for a long time, but you know that skate videos are really beginning to take a new (internet-ized) form when 411 is just about done. Funny Ironic Mash-Up #58579490685 This dog is the next Mike Mo. Regarding the Converses that were on here a while back… the overall shoe came out alright if you don’t mind having a bit extraneous weight (relative to an average skate shoe) on your foot, or if your foot isn’t extremely narrow. The thick sole probably accounts for the majority of the heaviness, and is kind of a bulkier take on the smushy Nike E-Cue shoe that they used to produce The toe cap never really rips, instead, the suede strip that holds the laces in tact tends to take most of the tearing, depending on how far in you set up your foot for kickflips. The sole itself lasts pretty long too, but may take some getting used to if you’re accustomed to more typical vulcanized shoes, or something with a thin sole like a Dunk. I’m not sure how they’re going to shape up relative to to the more popular generic shoe companies having their take at skate shoes, but with some minor tweaks they can shape up to be a pretty good shoe for wide-footed people. “…call that bitch my bodyguard. Call that bitch your bodyguard? Yeah that’s my bodyguard!“ Throw Yourself Over the Banks Rail for Money Don’t forget that a major work of art is premiering this Friday. Bosco painted this thing at the contest this past Saturday, which I unfortunately was not able to get Taji to re-cap. I guess I’ll never know who on 5Boro won. Rob Harris put together this throw away clip for the Rich Mahogany video which is supposed to come out in Many years ago, before Switch Mike perfected the artistry of nollie bigflips, he was telling his moms to “Chill wit dat” in music videos for early-1990s B-list rappers. I have no reason for posting this whatsoever, but this montage from FTC 3 has always been a favorite, and best of all, features the song Danny Weiss was supposed to skate to in my video back in 2004 before he decided he had a better knack for picking out outfits and taking pictures of random people on the street. You know how frontside heelflips typically are ridiculously difficult to do well? The J.B. Gillet one over the jersey barrier in this clip is the best non-Kalis flip trick in skateboarding history. Rick Ross still kind of sucks, but this clip is pretty good. No more six stair ledge where the rail was cut off at FedEx anymore. Vintage Danny Supa part from the Treefort video. (Where do you think that name ranks on the worst-skate-company-name-ever list?) |
