Seeing as how the Banks saw a gradual demise in popularity towards the end of the 90s, or at least as far as video coverage goes [notice how there's hardly any Flushing footage in the old Zoo York videos, Transworld New York section, 411 Metrospective, Eastern Exposure, etc.], Flushing is probably the most recognizable New York spot as of now. The entire fountain below the globe is surrounded by two-foot high granite ledges on smooth -- although slippery, painted ground. There are two-and-a-half foot high extensions that pop out of the ledge every once in a while, and can be either skated from flat or off the ledge below it. Obviously, the grate cannot go without mention. It is a heavily waxed, ten foot long piece of the ledge stretching above a drainage gate. The portion that people do flip tricks over is about five feet in length. Otherwise, there are two-foot high ledges/manual pads that slope down the gigantic six-stair. Those lead to another pool with much higher ledges that pass over concrete barriers breaking up the pool every forty feet or so. If you continue in that direction, you'll find another empty pool with two ledges running along the side, off of which people set up plastic picnic tables.

Rarely there will be occasions when this spot is unskateable. They hold a part of the U.S. Open here every July and August, so the globe is completely off limits then because the fountains are on. There's usually all sorts of ethnic festivals going on here during the spring and summer, so certain Saturdays and Sundays make it impossible to skate here. It's best skated during the fall, winter or early to mid spring. If you go here during the summer, it's best to go at night because the spot is wide out in the open, and you won't make it past a half hour with a ninety degree sun beaming at you at all times.

Corona Park/ Flushing Meadows Park, in Flushing, Queens. Take the 7 train to Willet's Point-Shea Stadium, and once you get out of the station, you should be able to spot a gigantic metal globe. Follow the wooden path above the stadium parking lot down into the park, make a right once you get down the hill, and skate towards the globe.
