68th and amsterdam
upper west side
Once again, like most other spots in the area, this isn't worth going out of your way for unless you already happen to be in the area to skate Martin Luther King High School, Lincoln Center, or anything else around the area. In a little plaza strip connecting 68th Street and 69th Street through these apartment buildings, there are two things you could actually skate. First is a handrail, which is skateable from the given that it descends on a mellow slant until it ultimately ends with a fence. It's about two feet high from the side, and six feet long before the actual fence. It's skateable frontside for regular footed people and backside for goofy footed people. Be sure to have your pop-over tricks on lock before bringing anything to it. In back, there is a gap to a brick ledge that could only be slid, given the fact that it's...brick. It's backside for regular footed people and frontside for goofy footed people. It's only a little over a foot in height from the top of the three stairs, and the gap from the steps onto the ledge is only about two-and-half feet of a distance. Bring a whole candle if you want to get anywhere on it because it's not skated frequently.

The security window faces the center of the plaza, so just avoid passing it and coming here with more than two people and you should be able to skate it for at least a half hour. People complain during the evening and night, so chances are, the guard will have to come over and kick you out. If you go on a weekend morning, you'll see your best chances at getting whatever trick you're trying.

68th Street in between Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway. Take the 1 or 9 to 66th Street, skate north on Broadway for two blocks, make a left on 68th and the spot is towards the end of the block on the northern side.
